What is the OTS Mutual Aid Society 👊 Resilience Union "Unofficial"?

Very popular podcast program, provided by TBS Radio [Jane Sue and Mika Horii's "OVER THE SUN"]. Among the listeners of the program (called "Mutual Aid members"), a group of people who are very curious about new things and want to use the social networking service called "Discord" has gathered and named themselves as "OTS Mutual Aid Society 👊 Resilience Union".

Needless to say, we chat about the content of the podcast program, and a variety of topics, ranging from daily events and favorite dramas and movies to deep content.

In order to join this Discord community, see
'How can I Join ... OTS Mutual Aid Society 👊 Resilience Union "Unofficial"?' for more information.

Is "Resilience Union" the Only Mutual Aid Society of OVER THE SUN?

NO, BY NO MEANS.

As far as we know, multiple OVER THE SUN Mutual Aid communities exist. LINE open chats in large groups, age-specific and gender-specific, on Twitter, etc. Each is acting independently, but some people belong to more than one.

We won't post links here unless offered, but you can find them by searching on their respective platforms (if they have search targets turned on).

What is Discord?

Launched in 2015, Discord is a social networking service that allows for text, voice, and video communication. It also has the ability for members to send individual messages to each other. In this sense, it is much like mixi or Facebook.

It is estimated to have 150 million active users worldwide and is often used by communities of people who play games, but it is also increasingly used by companies and other organizations for internal communication.

The main feature of Discord is that it does not have functions for individuals to post personal information such as diaries and tweets, but focuses on communication among members.

The community unit created by the administrator is called a "server". Within the server, there are "channels" divided by topic and, if necessary, further subdivisions called "threads. Users communicate with other users in their respective channels or threads. In this sense, it is similar to mixi or Facebook communities.

You can use different nicknames for each server you join.

If you've used Slack, you'll find it similar to Slack; you might say it's like a combination of Slack and zoom.

All you need is a web browser to use the service, but there are also apps for iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, and Linux.

What is the Benefit of Discord?

Just the right communication app for today

The main difference between this application and the conventional email, LINE, and SNS is that you can customize the content you see and the notifications you want to be notified of as you wish. In other words:

  • You don't have to see what you don't want to see

  • You can choose not to be notified of posts you don't want to be notified of

  • You can be notified in real-time about channels you want to be notified about

This means: you can be notified of what you do not want to be notified of. You can know what you want to know, when you want to know it.

Limited public access

Unlike widely known social networking sites, only those who participate in this server can read what you post. Not everyone can read it.

You can also limit the range of what can be read so that only certain users can read it.

Sub-divided Channels by Topic

Each topic has its own separate place for conversation as a message (chat) as a "channel," so you can participate in any topic you want at your own convenience, even if it is not in real time. In this sense, time is flowing at a leisurely pace.

Re-editing

Previously sent messages can also be re-edited or deleted later.

Pictograms for Reaction

Each community unit (server) can freely register at least 50 pictograms of their own creation, allowing users to send reactions to messages with pictograms that convey detailed nuances.

Moderate Notification

By default, you will only be notified if you are @mentioned, but you can set your own types of messages to be notified for each channel.

Voice Chat Feature

Use the voice chat feature to talk with members of the community. Video calls are also available.
